Pontificis Red Blend 2011

John Wine Snob says:
Shall I pontificate on the Pontificis 2011? It is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre from Languedoc-Roussillon where I have very fond memories with Mrs. Wine Snob having spent part of our 25th anniversary in 2008. Anyway, I cracked open a bottle when our friends Ingrid and Gabe popped in for a traditional French sup. It has an interesting slightly unpleasant waxiness at first. After breathing a while the wax flavor is replaced with lots of herb and spice and all the initial unpleasantness  disappears- kind of like arriving at the airport in Paris and getting into the city. It gets lots better. I was not very hopeful for this wine at first, but now I am a fan. At $6.99 at Trader Joe’s it deserves a 3 star rating.photo copy 5
