The Cheap Wine Snob Manifesto
The purpose of Cheap Wine Snobs is to enlighten and inform the legions of the Great Unwashed who are drowning in the copious amounts of pointless fermented grape drool. ( bacchus to insignificus 1240 AD )
The Cheap Wine Snobs are both artists with impeccable taste and not much money so we live beyond our means. That explains the “Cheap” and the “Snob.” We have been friends for more than twenty years and have traveled around the world tasting wines.
The reviews of wines by the Cheap Wine Snobs are based upon the consumption and assessment of lots of wine. If you do not like what we have to say about a particular wine you can say, “Kiss my ass and give me a Maneshevitz.”
Each of us drinks at least a bottle of different wine a day, so that adds up to a yearly consumption that approximates that of Luxembourg. Aside form the occasional gift or splurge bottle they are almost always cheap – less than $10 a bottle, and most often less that $8.
. One has to face reality once in a while. Cheap wine is not always very interesting. The complexity required by an arrogant snob of discerning taste is simply not always there, but…and that is one big butt!!, there are many gems out there. Some of them are the doorways to the soul of humanity at $5 a bottle, and that is where we come in. We drink lots of cheap wines risking our health and sanity in the altruistic desire to inform others.
But let’s also add that wine is beneficial to a healthy mind and body. Especially the mind and body.Because life is too short to drink bad wine, we do it so you won’t have to.
Wine is the drink of civilization. It is the drink of romance and friendship. Families drink wine together at dinner. Wine is the ritual of religion. Wine has helped to define many great cultures such as France and Italy. Wars have been fought over wine. It happened in Greece although why anyone would fight over Retsina is one of the world’s great mysteries along with the Pyramids and Stonehenge.
Wine is what we drink at art openings. As Cheap wine Snobs we always discuss what kind of vile swill our friends have served at their openings. “Damn the art!” we say. “Serve us good wine.”
Last and most important :remember that you must drink. Drink beer if you must and whiskey, ouzo and armanac please . Drink Ricard and Rakki, and grappa and sambucca and some gin. But remember this:
Your life will be better if you drink, and even better when you drink wine.
